You asked so now I’m answering.
Am I the only blogger who gets this a lot? How much do you make from your blog and how? Since everyone found out that you could make money blogging and posting videos, they assume that you must be making thousands or that you’re blogging to get rich.
Let’s face it, that’s the current sitch and though many bloggers I’ve come across don’t like to disclose this information, I think it’s okay to be transparent with these things. Every blog is a voice that has the potential to speak to millions, even billions of people and the curators, who are so committed in producing worthy content for hours at a time deserve some sort of return on their hardwork and investment. If that return is financial, better still. Blogging can be a great source of income but it should never be the only one. You know what they say about putting all your eggs in one basket.
So this is an FAQ about my blog that I should have done ages ago, but I’m only coming around to now because I just made a video about it on Youtube and I can’t post it till next week, after all my email subscribers have seen this.
In this post, I’ll give you a rough estimate of how much money my blog makes, how it makes it, how I started and how hard I have to work for that return.
How I started?
When I started this blog almost two years ago, I wasn’t thinking about money. Bloggers like Chiara Ferragni were too far from reach for me and I didn’t even dare dream that one day I would have over a thousand email subscribers on my blog. I was going through a very rough patch and I decided after wanting to for a long time, that I would finally start a blog.
One of the first and most important mistakes I made was thinking people would be interested in anything I had to say. I learnt withing a week that they weren’t. I was a Business and Economics student with hopes and dreams, and nothing more for bragging rights. No one wants to know about sadness and struggles, people tend to care mainly about the final results. So what did you do in the end? How can that help me?
So I decided I would get the stories from people who had success in their fields and use that to empower myself and others. I started by interviewing my older brother, lead singer of Lewisand, on the 26 euro WordPress domain. Then I started writing to everyone I’d ever come across, asking for interviews… what the hell, I even wrote Beyonce. What was I thinking? The worst they could have said was ‘no’ right?
But it occured to me that people do want to talk about themselves. Everyone wants to be a source of inspiration for another person.
Soon I purchased a DSLR, a premium WordPress domain and other tools I would need to produce content of better quality. A lot of people see a finished blog post and think it’s all a piece of cake. The average post on my blog takes between 3 to 5 hours to create and edit. Then bear in mind the blog post stays there forever and you have to reply to comments or questions, (I reply to everything even though I take a while sometimes) and update it where necessary. Over all, it’s safe to say I spent about 500 euros to start my blog properly.
How much Does My Blog Make?
So to answer that question, I earn an average of 45 to 50 euros from my blog. I don’t put up any Google Ad advertisements simply because I feel as though they ruin the readers experience – besides there is only so much that can be made from adverts or affiliate links. Most of my monthly income comes from sponsored posts and events, which I’m very transparent about to my readers. An entire sponsored post can range from 400 to 500 euros sometimes and sponsored content from 15 to 50 euros. Events are usually at the discretion of the organising body.
So that pretty much sums up your blog related questions. Anything else you would like to know? Comment below! Don’t forget to subscribe via email.
Oh, almost forgot, speaking of events, I’ll be seeing you at University of Bocconi for ‘I Provenzali’ Cosmetics. Who is in Milan on the 5th of October?
Thanks for stopping by,
See you soon!
